Sexual assault of a female doctor in Kolkata has shook the country and has once again lead us to question the safety of women. Time and again cases such as these have inhibited anxiety in women who step out of home for work or leisure. There are times when such cases have been reported from within the homes too.
This anxiety and uneasiness may lead us to seek mental and emotional help to understand the situation or the perpetrators better. In a country like India which struggles to have the required number of mental health professionals, google seems to be one of the major resort to look for answers.
As I was searching for the same answers on google, I typed “why men rape?” and found several studies regarding the same. As I scrolled down the answers I saw some other interesting search terms which anxiety ridden women or men like me must be looking forward to in the wake of such worrisome news in media.
I am here to share some of those terms with you. “What do rapists look for” was another search term people looked for. Concerns and fearfulness about whom do rapists target can be analysed by people searching “how do perpetuates choose their victims”, “ what do rapists say to their victims?” and “Do rapists think about their victims”. “
These search terms also include questions where people have looked for answers regarding what goes on inside the mind of a rapist. There are search terms such as “do rapist love their victims”, “do rapists kiss their victims“, “why do rapists bite their victims” and “do rapists use condoms” reveal the anxiousness with which people want to delve inside the mind of such criminals.
Indicating distress, other search terms includes questions such as “what do rapists do to their victims”, “types of rapists”, “power assertive offender” and “how to stop rape”.
There were some search terms which indicate that people also expect remorse from the rapist. Search terms on google such as “can rapists change”, “can rapists be rehabilitated” and “do rapist deserve a second chance” shows that people want to see the humane side of such criminals too.
