Middle East is closer to the brink of a potential conflict, as Tensions between Israel and Iran escalated. These tensions escalated after Hamas political chief Ismail Haneye was killed in Iran. Haneye was in Iran to attend the inauguration of newly elected Iranian President Masood Pejiskian.
As per a report by LiveMint .com, the United States is reinforcing its military presence in the Middle Eastern region in response to this escalating situation. As per another news report, the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has warned his counterparts from the G7 countries that an attack by Iran and Hezbollah against Israel could commence as early as on Monday.
However, a leading daily in Israel, Times of Israel has reported that the Benjamin Netanyahu -led government of Israel could sanction a pre -emptive strike on Iran to prevent an attack on Israeli soil.
Hezbollah was established in early 1980s with Iranian support and it represents Iran’s first proximity in the Middle East. On Saturday, Iran said that Hezbollah will escalate its attack deeper into Israeli territory, potentially targeting more than just military installations.
The situation is further complicated. by the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Thaneyeh in Tehran. This assassination has been attributed to Israel, although it has not been confirmed by Israeli authorities.
The intensity of the current situation has led various embassies, including India’s, to urge their citizens to leave Lebanon while commercial flights remain available.
