Quiz shows were the part of limited television time for every millineal as a kid. When screens were not compressed into our palms and TV shows could not be viewed at flexible timinings, waiting for these shows every week glued to the TV screens was the only option.
Hope we hit you with a bubble of nostalgia with these iconic quiz shows we loved to watch as a 90s kid.
1. Bournvita Quiz Contest: The Bournvita Quiz Contest was actually a contest organised by Cadbury that initially began in 1972. Hosted by Derek O’Brien, the quiz show featuring school kids from across the country was quite a rage in the 90s.
2. Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hain:
Aired in 2008, ‘Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?’ was an educational game show based on the American show Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? The show was hosted by Shah Rukh Khan.
3. Dus Ka Dum:
The show was hosted by Salman khan. Initially two contestants participated in the show who were both asked a poll question and they have to guess the answer in terms of percentage. The contestants whose answer matches with the actual poll result moves on to the next round, while the other person is eliminated.
4. Khul Ja Sim-Sim:
Originally aired on Star Plus in 2001, the show was hosted by Aman Verma. It is an Indian adaptation of US game show ‘Let’s Make a Deal’. In the game show, the host picked one of the members of the audiences to participate in the game and asked them to guess the right door behind which a prize (car, or any other valuable item) is kept. Choosing the incorrect door meant the end of the game.
5. Kaun Banega Carorepati (KBC):
India’s all-time favourite quiz show, Kaun Banega Carorepati was aired for the first time in the year 2000. It was an adaptation of the British TV show ‘Who wants to be a Millionaire?’. Season 16 of the show is going to be aired soon. It has been hosted by Amitabh Bachchan but was also briefly hosted by Shah Rukh Khan.
