Here Are the top 5 cities in Rajasthan best suitable for living

Five cities of Rajasthan made it to the list of top 50 cities with ‘ease of living’. The ‘Ease of living index-2020’ survey was recently conducted by Ministry of housing and urban affairs to evaluate the quality of life and the impact of various initiatives for urban development on the cities of the county. It was aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of participating 111 cities across India based on quality of life, economic-ability of a city, and its sustainability and resilience. The assessment also incorporates the residents’ view on the services provided by city administration through a Citizen Perception Survey.

The ease of living index (EoLI) was calculated in two categories- million+ category i.e. cities with a population of more than a million and cities with less than a million category. Where Bangaluru emerged as a top performer in the million+ category as per a PIB press release on Thursday, three cities in Rajasthan made it to the top 50 list- Jodhpur, Jaipur and Kota.

Where Jodhpur city backed 21st position on the list with 55.80 points, Jaipur backed 23rd position with 55.70 points. The third city of the state to back a position among the top 50 is Kota gaining 44th position with 49.52 points.

In less than a million category, Ajmer backed 12th position with 54.89 points whereas Udaipur backed 48th position with 50.25 points. The average score of the 111 surveyed cities was 53.51.

As per the PIB press relase more 32.2 lakh citizens from 111 cities across the country participated in the ‘citizen perception survey’ which held 30% waitage in the overall points gained by individual cities. Apart from incorporating the resident’s view, the process also incorporated examining the outcomes that lead to existing living conditions through pillars of quality of life, economic ability and sustainability, said the press release.

The categories under which the performace of individual cities was calculated included- education, health, housing and shelter; water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and Solid waste management (SWM); mobility, safety and security, recreation, level of economic development, economic opportunities, environment, green spaces, and buildings, energy oncsumption, and city resilience. The above mentioned 13 categories accounted for 70% of the overall outcome.

Another accomplishment held by the cities of Rajasthan included backing 8th position in the Municipal Performance index, which is an analysis of the performance of Indian municipalities based on their defined set of functions. The responsibilities of a municipality span across a range of verticals that include provision of basic pubic services to more complex domains like urban planning. As per the PIB press release, the Ease of Living Index measures an outcome of the indicator, whereas, the Municipal Performance Index (MPI) focuses on the factors that produce those outcomes. MPI serves in determining elements that prevent efficient local governance in service delivery mechanisms, planning, financial systems, and governance practice, said the press release. Udaipur has gained the position under ‘Population less than a million category’ of the Municipal Performance Index (MPI).
