Congress leader Archana Sharma alleges irregularities in committee formation of Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation
Jaipur: The recent board meeting of the Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation has resulted in a political war between the Congress and the BJP, with senior Congress leader Archana Sharma accusing that due process was not followed during the meeting and approval was not sought before constituting committees.
Congress spokesperson Sharma, who has also been the party’s candidate from the Malviya Nagar Assembly constituency- a part of Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation- has said that it is ‘not proper’ to bring in other resolutions in a meeting called for budget approval.
“Under the municipal Act, the board of the municipal corporation has the power to constitute only 6 committees and the remaining committees are constituted by the state government. However, in the general meeting of the Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation, 17 committees were constituted along with 21 chairman. This is interference by the civic body board in the jurisdiction of the state government,” said Sharma.
She further added that irregularities were noticed in the formation of several committees and cited the example of councillors who are simultaneously chairman to one committee while members in other committees.
Sharma alleged favouritism in the constitution of the committees and said that there is no justification for dividing electricity and sanitation-related committees into three parts.
While the Congress has formed the board in the Jaipur Heritage Municipal Corporation, the BJP is in a majority at Jaipur Greater, indicating that throughout its tenure, both civic bodies will see their fair share of political bickering and blame-game between the Congress and BJP councillors.
Sharma said that UDH minister Shanti Dhariwal will be intimated about the alleged irregularities in the board formation.
